From the makers of perhaps the best infant seat on the market comes the Nextfit Zip, a convertible car seat that should check most of the boxes for parents looking for an elite seat with the ultimate in convenience and safety. This model comes with a host a features that has quickly made it a favorite among both kids and parents alike. Great detail went into designing a seat that is extremely easy to install properly and present the least amount of headaches for Mom and Dad.
The Nextfit Zip has a weight recommendation of 5 to 65 lbs. Chicco has included many of their own systems such as ReclineSure, RideRight, and SuperCinch that have thus far been a huge hit. With owner scores in the very high 4’s out of 5 stars, this is one of the best rated convertible car seats that we have come across..
Car Seat Features
Safety – Of course this is the most important aspect of any car seat and the Nextfit Zip meets or exceeds safety regulations. Excellent side impact protection, sturdy and flexible frame, and energy absorbing foam are features that are included.
Zip & Wash – This seat gets its name from the zipper that runs across the edge and allows you to remove the seat pad for washing. A convertible car seat should last for years and having a simple means to keep it clean is something on every parents’ wishlist.
ReclineSure – This feature allows the car seat to fit properly in a larger range of vehicles. It is a leveling system that helps safeguard against a misaligned seat ensuring that everything is installed correctly.
RideRight – This also contributes to a proper installation as the seat has bubbles level indicators to make sure that it is riding at the correct angle.
SuperCinch – This allows you to make sure that the fit of the LATCH system is tight and snug. The technology requires less effort from Mom or Dad for added convenience.
What Owners Love About This Convertible Car Seat
This is no doubt a safe seat, but where this particular model really shines is in the implementation of all the different systems that make installing and using this seat on a daily basis. Some of the aspects of the NextFit Zip that get the most praise include:
Installation – If you have any previous experience with other convertible car seats then you know that some of them can be quite a chore to get in and out of the vehicle, make sure they are securely fastened, and then fuss with getting your child in and out of the seat. The NextFit seems to have addressed most, if not all, of these issues successfully. Most of the feed back that we have come across mentions something about the ease of use of this model. Owners who have used other seats really appreciate this aspect of the NextFit Zip.
Construction – We also found quite a number of reviews that mentioned how well this seat was put together and how sturdy it felt. With high end materials and an attention to detail, parents were impressed with the overall makeup of this seat.
Cleaning – The “Zip” seems to work just as advertised. Users love how they can unzip everything and get everything clean in their washing machine. Kids are inherently messy and this is a feature that is truly a blessing for a lot of folks.
Comfort – Kids really like riding in this seat and have no issues falling asleep or relaxing. Plush materials and plenty of padding make for a happy passenger, which in turn makes for a happy Mom or Dad.
What Could Be Better
Alas, there is not a seat out there that we have found that is 100% perfect. Some of the minor issues that have been expressed by parents include:
Finicky Straps – There were a few owners that found the straps on the harness to be a little hard to pull at times.
Ventilation – We also found a few instances of parents wishing the materials were a little bit cooler or breathed a little better.
Weight – Some folks also found that lugging this between two different cars was somewhat of a chore due to its weight and size. Its sturdiness and size are safety advantages, but not so much when trying to move it in and out.
These all seemed to be minor issues that have not really detracted from the NextFit Zip’s overall scores.
While this seat has just about everything you need, it also comes with a higher price. If you need something that will fit into a tighter budget then the Britax G4.1 Marathon or the Graco Size4Me are excellent alternatives.
If you would like a convertible car seat that also has the ability to transform into a booster seat when your child gets big enough, the Graco 4Ever All In One or the Diono Radian RXT would be good choices.
The Chicco NextFit Zip has just about everything that both a parent and a child would want in a convertible car seat. Parents get something that is designed for easy installation and maintenance, while also being extremely durable, sturdy and safe. Kids get a comfortable ride in a seat that is easy to clean. They can make as big of a mess as they want and with a quick unzip the seat pad can go right in the washing machine. For all of its features and design elements, it is no surprise that this safety seat has gotten such high marks from parents. With scores in the very high 4’s out of 5 stars, this is one of the top ranked seats in 2016.
